Pharmacognostical, physicochemical, and phytochemical investigation of Allium wallichii Kunth (An unexplored and underutilised traditional aromatic plant from Himalayan regions)

Allium wallichii (A. wallichii) Kunth is considered one of the underutilised, threatened, and unexplored medicinal plant species having several beneficial health-promoting actions. Moreover, being so popularised in both ethnobotanical traditional systems, still, less studied terms proper pharmacognostic standardisation. The main objective current work to establish standard pharmacognostic, physiochemical phytochemical analytical parameters for routine quality control A. Kunth. Intact leaves, powdered materials, various extracts viz petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, ethanol, hydro-alcohol water (aqueous) were investigated following prescribed guidelines World Health Organization (WHO) standardisation herbs. Morphological, microscopic, (including all extractive, loss on drying ash values) preliminary analysis presented discussed parameters. Additionally, high performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) fingerprinting extract fractions also incorporated. outcome research will add value secure safety efficacy (both crude processed drug) future commercialisation.
